Get Involved With World Environment Day!

Highest Go Ape Obstacles

Have you ever heard about World Environment Day?

Whether you have or haven’t now is the time to get involved and help encourage awareness and action for the environment.

An initiative by the United Nations, World Environment Day occurs every year and focuses on a key theme to spark a positive change in caring for the world’s ecosystem. This year the theme is:

“Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care”

We live in a fragile ecosystem, challenged by a high population and limited natural resources so keeping awareness flowing is key.

How can you get involved?

World Environment Day is for everyone! Towns, communities, schools, businesses, organisations or just you – every action counts – and you can register your activity here.

If you’re thinking “what difference can I make?”, here are a few super simple things you can do today to help protect the sustainability of our planet:

  • Choose local foods or those with Fairtrade or Rainforest Alliance certification
  • Conserve water – did you know it takes about three litres of water to produce a one litre of bottled water?
  • RECYCLE!
  • Pull the plug on unnecessary electrical items

It’s that easy, and every action counts.

The sustainability of our planet is very important to Go Ape, for more on how we’re helping protect the environment, click here.

3 Tree Top Hideaways You Need to Visit

Climb the treetops

Hands up, who had a treehouse when they were younger?

I did, and I loved it, I even used to have sleepovers in it with my friends. There’s definitely something special about hiding out up above the ground, which led me to a search for the UK’s best grown-up treehouses you can stay in. Without further ado, here’s three of my favourites:

Bensfield Treehouse, East Sussex

First of all there’s a 24-metre rope bridge across a pond to reach Bensfield Treehouse, what could be better? At Go Ape we’re big fans of adding a little bit of adventure to everyday life, so absolutely had to feature this pad on the list.

Treetops Treehouse, Devon

The design of Treetops Treehouse definitely has the WOW factor! Built around a massive 250-year-old oak tree, this quirky construction was built to impress. What’s more, the inside is just as magnificent, boasting a kingsize bed for adults and uber cool bunkbeds for the kids, a luxurious copper bath, log fire, and a terrace overlooking a fishing lake.

Enough said.

The Treehouse Lavender Hill, Somerset

We have a special place in our hearts for the Treehouse Lavender Hill thanks to their dedication to conservation. For every booking, the Treehouse plants a native hardwood tree to help reduce their carbon footprint. Keep up the awesome work guys.

Oh, and did we mention it’s an award-winning, 5-star boutique accommodation?

Maybe it’s time to upgrade our forest cabins to treehouses!

Discover the UK’s Most Beautiful Forests

The-Benefits-of-Cold-Weather-Go-Ape1-1

Forests are some of the most beautiful areas in the World.

There’s something for everyone in a forest – whether you’re looking to relax in the acres of woodland, explore relatively untouched trails on bike or foot, or fancy watching the thousands of animals in their natural setting.

We’ve bundled a list of our favourite forests to get out and explore – and even better, there’s a Go Ape at every one!

1. Forest of Dean

The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley is alive with colour and wildlife – a magical place in all seasons. The steep and lofty cliffs, the waters rolling from their mountain springs with a sweet inland murmur and the wild green landscape are all to be admired from some of the best viewpoints in the UK.

2. Grizedale Forest

It’s the heart of the Lakes, Grizedale Forest is simply stunning with it’s giant Douglas Firs. Scattered through this forest are about 90 sculptures for you to seek out. It’s the adventure hub of the UK (and home to our only Zip Trekking Adventure) – that’s why it’s made it to our hit list!

3. Glentress Forest

A popular forest just 30 miles from Edinburgh, Glentress is the mountain biking mecca in Scotland. Glentress is one of seven forests doted along the valley of the River Tweed. Discover the trails and enjoy panoramic views of the landscape and encounters with roe deer, badgers and tawny owls.

4. Wendover Woods

The Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is stuffed with beautiful woodland – all on London’s doorstep! Our adventure at Wendover woods enjoys spectacular views across the Aylesbury Vale – and it’s home to our first ‘Extreme’ section on the Tree Top Adventure!

5. Haldon Forest Park

Whether you want a quiet gentle stroll or an exhilarating mountain bike ride, Haldon Forest Park and it’s 3,500 acres of woodland can be found just fifteen minutes from Exeter. There’s magical views across Dartmoor National Park if you find the right spot.

We’d love to know which forest wins!
