The best Black Friday deals for outdoor gear

Go Ape Gift Vouchers - Gift Adventure

We have our friends across the pond to thank for the shopping bonanza that is Black Friday.

Landing on the day that follows Thanksgiving Day in America (the fourth Thursday of November) the name was originally conjured up in Philadelphia to describe the fumes and congested traffic that followed Thanksgiving. It’s now the biggest shopping day of the year, and 2015 internet sales alone are predicted to exceed £1 billion for the first time ever in the UK. Wowzers!

If you’re thinking of waiting ‘til Boxing Day to hit the sales, think again! Black Friday promises some of the most bargainous prices around and, what’s more, you can’t buy your friends and family presents for Christmas Day on Boxing Day, can you?!

So, if you’re heading into town – expect mayhem. You may be better off shopping online from the comfort of your own sofa. Either way, we’ve tracked down the best Black Friday deals for outdoor gear, so you’ll be suited and booted and ready to tackle the treetops here at Go Ape…

Blacks: Quest 4D Hiking Boots

Fed up of having soggy plimsolls and wet feet? If you’ve been meaning to invest in hiking boots, Black Friday at Blacks is the place to go. These Quest boots, available for both men and women, have been reduced dramatically from £160.00 to £99. What’s more, get 20% off all full-priced items by using the code BLACKSFRIDAY20.

Boats and Outboards: Musto Active Base Layer Trousers

Going to be out in the cold for long periods of high activity? Then you need these Active Base Layer Trousers from outdoor sportswear brand Musto. They’re yours for only £27 when you use the code BLACK10 at the checkout. There are loads of other awesome items on this website, too, including thermal gloves and jackets.

Amazon: Kite Waterproof Gilet

Looking for outdoor gear for your little monkeys? This fab waterproof gilet is one example of something you could find within Amazon’s huge Black Friday extravaganza. With a fleece lining and made using recycled material, it’ll keep them both warm and dry this winter.

Argos: Nikon Coolpix Zoom Bridge Camera

10 things that are better than paying for postage

Go Ape #GiftAdventure

What would you do if you won the lottery?

It’s a common ‘what if’ question, isn’t it? Well, we’ve got another one for you – this time, it’s a bit more realistic: what would you spend £1.99 on?

“Bit random” we hear you say. But it’s not as weird as you might think! Postage for our Go Ape gift vouchers used to be just a penny shy of two pounds. So, that got us thinking: now that postage is completely free, what could you buy with that £1.99?! Here’s what we came up with, all of which are so much better than paying for postage…

1. Multivitamins

Winter is well and truly here, which means Christmas festivities, crisp morning walks and cosying up by a roaring fire. Unfortunately, it also means sniffles, coughs and sore throats. Keep your immune system topped up with a daily dose of A-Z vitamins.

2. Anti-bac hand gel

On the topic of colds, stash a little bottle of anti-bac on your desk or in your bag and smother your hands in it at intervals throughout the day – killing those nasty germs in the process.

3. A new pen

If you write regularly, why not wave bye-bye to those temperamental biros and ever-blunt pencils and treat yourself to a good quality pen? And while you’re at it, jot down your New Year’s resolutions – that’s right it’s nearly that time of year again!

4. A new mug

We all love a good cuppa, especially during the chilly months! Your local supermarket is a great place to pick up inexpensive but super-stylish mugs – perfect for wrapping your hands around.

5. A smoothie

Five-a-day in one drink? Yes please! Next time you’re in town, swing by a smoothie shop and order the healthiest bevvy on the menu.

6. Gel hand warmers

These are a dream come true for outdoorsy types like us! Crack them to activate, place in your pockets and have toasty fingers all day long.

7. Warm socks

Don’t make your feet jealous – they want to be toasty, too! Get yourself some thick, fleecy socks to wear under your boots. You might never want to take them off (but, for your nose’s sake, we would advise you do!).

8. A flask

Hot drink hours after you made it? Enter: the flask! If you’re not going to be near a kettle for a while and you love your tea, coffee or hot chocolate, this is the vessel for you!

9. Herbal tea

We all know the health benefits of herbal tea – especially green tea. For £1.99 you can get some quality bags – maybe even those fancy mesh ones?!

10. Sketch book

If you’re the arty type, there’s nothing better than getting outside and sketching the beautiful scenery. Let those creative juices flow!

So, what would you spend £1.99 on? Answers on a postcard, please! Actually, scrap that – save on the postage and tweet us @GoApeTribe.

Go Ape Battersea – THE STATS

Go Ape Tree Top Adventure Battersea Park

On December 10th 2015 we’ll be setting Go Ape loose on Battersea Park – we thought we’d gather together some ‘vital stats’ for our latest adventure!

Our NEW central London adventure features some seriously high crossings plus some are twice as long than our other locations, making them extra wobbly and challenging.

Over a Kilometre of crossings

If all the obstacles were laid out end-to-end they would cover a massive 1,061.88m – so over a kilometre! There’s the usual suspects to cross, like the tunnel and the stirrups – plus some new additions to try your hand at…

The highest point is 12m

Our Battersea adventure is made up of 25 poles and 12 of Battersea Park’s trees. The tallest poles are a staggering 15.5m, and the highest point you stand is 12m off the ground. Bring it on!

Taller than Canary Wharf!

If you put the poles end-on-end they would be tower at 300.6m, which is higher than Canary Wharf (and just 9m shy of the Shard).

Calling all Londoners (and adventure lovers!)

Are you ready to Go Ape at Battersea Park? Come and hang out with us in the capital city! See you soon.

Or maybe you know someone who lives in or near London? Why not treat them to the gift of adventure! Buy them vouchers for Go Ape, just click here to personalise and buy your gift voucher.
