5 Ways To Show Your Grandparents You Care
Grandparents. Aren’t they the best?
Grandparents and their grandkids have an unbreakable bond. They’re like second parents who are there for us, no matter what. They spoil us rotten, cook us great dinners and when parents say ‘no,’ we can count on them to say ‘yes.’
The 1st of October was National Grandparents Day, when nans, grannies, grandmas and grampys (or whatever names you have for yours) received extra-special treatment from their grandsons and granddaughters. Didn’t realise what day it was? Never mind – grandparents are great at forgiving, and it’s never too late to make it up to them!
Grandparents don’t expect anything in return for their endless love and affection, but we think they deserve it! So, here are five ways to show your grandparents just how much you care:
1. Spend the day with them
The best gift you can possibly give your grandparents? Your time. Find out what they’re up to this weekend and if they have a day free, take them out. Stroll around the park, visit the garden centre, or go to a museum so they can reminisce with you. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what you’ve planned – they’ll just love being in your company and spending time with you.
2. Cook them a meal
It’s your time to don an apron and wow them with your finest culinary skills! If said skills aren’t that great and your meal ends up somewhat disappointing, your grandparents will still tell you that it’s the best thing they’ve ever tasted. Go to their house and take over the kitchen – it’ll save them driving home later.
3. Find out more about them
Things were so different when our grandparents were younger, so sit down over a cuppa (and cake) and let them enlighten and inspire you with their stories of yesteryear. You’ll discover so much about them that you didn’t know before – and we bet some of their stories will be book-worthy. Dig out old photo albums and flick through them together, as they might help to jog their memory!
4. Lend a helping hand
Grandparents will be the first to admit that they aren’t as sprightly as they used to be, so they’re bound to appreciate you lending a hand for the afternoon. Whether you help them with their weekly shop, clear out a room with them, or take some rubbish to the tip, it’ll be a few more tasks they can tick off their to-do lists!
5. Bond in the treetops
Quality time? How about quali-tree time!? If your grandparents are reasonably fit and healthy, how about taking them into the canopy to embark on a Tree Top Adventure? Let them unleash their Tarzans and feel young again as they make their way from from platform to platform, taking on whatever obstacles are thrown their way! We simply love welcoming silverbacks to the forest and if there’s one thing they’ve taught us, it’s that age is just a number!
