Love is in the air…

Go Ape Aberfoyle Proposal

Marriage Proposal at Go ApeIt was late last month, at Go Ape Aberfoyle, when Colin Nicholson found himself whizzing down the course’s final 400-metre long zip wire.

His partner, Zac Louden, had begged to go first, and as Colin neared the end he started to realise why: one knee down in a pile of woodchip knelt Zac, holding up a sign which read: “Will you marry me!?

An immediate “Yes!” from Colin was greeted with claps and cheers from onlookers, including fellow customers as well as members of the Go Ape tribe who helped make the forest-themed proposal possible.

“Being up in the trees I was so worried that I was going to drop the rings!” says Zac. “As if a zip wire isn’t nerve wracking enough without the added pressure of proposing – but it was worth it to see the look on Colin’s face as he came flying down the zip wire.”

The couple’s whirlwind romance all began last summer. After meeting on Facebook through mutual friends, Zac and Colin decided that they wanted their first date to be fun – somewhere they can relax and have a laugh. And so, after visiting Go Ape before and loving it, they decided to head 150 feet up in the trees of Aberfoyle!

After deciding to take their relationship to new heights, Zac knew that a zip down memory lane at Go Ape would be the ultimate way to pop the question.

“We were about to go on the last zip wire and I knew something was strange as Zac was insisting that I went last,” says Colin. “At about half way along the zip I could see a huge sign and Zac down on one knee and I immediately clicked what was happening.”

Zac and Colin at Go ApeColin admits he went a little red-faced at the number of people clapping and cheering, but says, “We love going hill walking and doing outdoor activities, so it was an amazing proposal which really summed-up our relationship.”

Gordon Cochrane-Yuill, site manager at Go Ape Aberfoyle, congratulated Colin and Zac on their engagement. “Go Ape’s all about having fun and living life adventurously, which makes it a great place for an exciting date that’s sure to leave a lasting impression,” he says.

Now living together, Colin and Zac have made a bucket list of things they want to do over the next few years, starting with a trip to Disney World in 2017 to celebrate their engagement. Then, they’ll start planning their dream wedding on the water at The Vu in Scotland’s Bathgate.

All that’s left to say is a huge ‘congratulations!’ from all the Go Ape tribe, and here’s to many more tree-mendous years of adventure together!

Our year so far…

We’re glad to say, 2015 has been quite a year – and for all the right reasons!

There’s nothing better than reflecting on the past 12 months and thinking: “Yes! We achieved so much in those 52 weeks!” and feeling proud, nostalgic, and inspired for the New Year.

As always, we’ve had our fair share of monkeying around and living the high life – if we were to list ALL of our most memorable moments, this blog post would turn into something resembling a short novel. So, we’ve come up with a few of our super-duper proud memories to share with you as the year draws to a close…

Ben Fogle This Morning#ShareAdventure campaign

We had to start off this list with our phenomenal #ShareAdventure campaign, which really was a resounding success! Launching in the summer, we set about to spread adventure across the nation by encouraging you to share your adventurous moments through your Instagram snaps. You showed us you were quite an adventurous bunch!

Ben Fogle also supported the campaign, talking to us directly about his own adventures. “Each one defines me as a person,” he said. “Adventure maketh the person.” We couldn’t agree more, Ben!

Tree top wedding – and engagement!

Go Ape WeddingLove was well and truly in the (very fresh) air at Go Ape this year! A lovely couple from Southampton said their vows 40 feet off the ground in the tree tops of Go Ape Aberfoyle, and the bride even wore a custom-made dress that was designed to incorporate the Go Ape harness!

A huge congrats also to Ollie and Selina – Ollie recently popped the question at Go Ape Forest of Dean! Luckily, he wasn’t barking up the wrong tree and Selina said YES! What can we say? We’re a place where dreams come true!

Our 5 millionth customer!

Our 5 millionth customer means we need to say 5 million whopping enormous “thank yous” to all you lovely people who have chosen to live life adventurously at Go Ape. Back in August, Claire Haigh became the official 5 millionth customer to join our tribe, so we surprised her with a troop of Gorillas, accompanied by a live rendition of the Jungle Book’s ‘King of the Swingers’. Inflatable bananas, of course, made an appearance too! Here’s to the next 5 million! If you missed it check out the video below:

Sponsoring Nikki Curwen’s Transatlantic Voyage

We were super honoured to be the official lead sponsor for Nikki Curwen’s 2015 transatlantic voyage. Covering over 3,000 miles of sailing in her Mini 747 dinghy, we were so proud of her for coming 12th out of 43, and finishing the first woman. Nikki is an adventurer through and through, so for Go Ape to sponsor her seemed more than a perfect match. Re-live her journey here.

Battersea Park opening

Finally, you may have heard us mention it once or twice – that’s because we are SO excited to announce that our Go Ape Battersea Park officially opened this month! We can’t believe there is now a Go Ape in the centre of London – and the highest obstacle crossings are double the height of most Go Ape courses. Are you up for the challenge?Battersea Park Tree Top Adventure

As you can see, there’s been plenty to shout from the tree tops about. But let’s not forget something: there’s still a couple of weeks left of 2015… which means there’s plenty more time to squeeze in another adventure or two!

Say hello to… Go Ape Battersea Park!

Go Ape Tree Top Adventure Battersea Park

People say “everything happens in the capital” but, until now, we couldn’t really agree.

When people said it we’d nod politely, saying “yes, it’s a buzzing place, isn’t it?” but only ever half-heartedly. Something was missing – can you guess the reason for our out-of-character lack of enthusiasm?

Yep, you’ve got it: there was no Go Ape in the centre of London! But, finally, in just a couple of weeks we will be able to jump for joy and whole-heartedly agree that YES! London IS the place to be!Go Ape Battersea Park

Our award-winning high wire tree top adventure will be opening in Battersea Park – the first for any UK city! (Can you tell we’re a little bit excited?!).

What’s more, Go Ape Battersea Park – which will open in December – will feature obstacle crossings that are double – yes, DOUBLE – the height of many of our courses, and some are also twice as long. If you love a wobble, a challenge and a healthy dose of adventure – look no further than the tree tops of Battersea! Plus, the course is open to Mini Tarzans over 1m tall, making Go Ape Battersea Park a fun family day out like no other.

Battersea Park is right in the heart of London – the 200-acre green space can be found opposite Chelsea, on the south bank of the River Thames, and the nearest train station is Battersea Park National Rail station, with trains running regularly from Victoria.

So, if you know someone who lives in or near London, or is planning a visit to the capital soon, why not treat them to the ULTIMATE Christmas present this year – the gift of adventure! Yes, buy them vouchers for Go Ape, simply click here to personalise and buy your voucher which will be delivered to you in 2-5 working days (for free) and will be valid for a whole year!

She said, “YES!”

Go Ape Marriage Proposal

Question: What could be better than ending one of our Tree Top Adventures with an epic wind-in-your-face zip line?

Answer: Landing feet first, followed by a wildly romantic marriage proposal!

Congratulations to Ollie and Selina for getting engaged at our Forest of Dean course last week. Our Go Ape instructors were on hand for support, holding up a handmade banner asking ‘Selina, will you marry me?’ as Ollie got down on bended knee with ring in hand.

Does it get any more tree-mendous than that?!

Tissues at the ready, check out the video below showing the moment Selina said “YES!”

It seems love is in the air at Go Ape this year following the first Tree Top Wedding at our Aberfoyle course this past summer where Martyn and Colette said “High Do!”. In full wedding attire, Martyn and Colette opted for an utterly untraditional wedding, complete with their Registrar officiating the proceedings high up on the Tibetan Bridge – check out their day here.

So, for Ollie and Selina it’s time to get planning! We wonder whether we’ll see them return for a stag or hen do with a difference.
