What do teachers do in the summer holidays?!

GROUP OF SCHOOL KIDS WITH GORILLA ALEXANDRA PALACE
If you’€™re a teacher or a student, it’€™s safe to say you’€™re in agreement that the summer months with weeks of blissful freedom on the horizon, are the happiest time of the year!

That’€™s not to say you don’€™t deserve it. Although teachers might finish school at 3.30pm, most put in much longer hours than the average office worker, what with all the planning and paperwork they need to do. Plus, students who have faced the dreaded exam period will be in desperate need of escaping their revision and soaking up some much needed vitamin D in the great outdoors! Here at Banana HQ, we take our hats off to you!

But whilst students are most likely to be sleeping until noon, hanging out in the park or generally luxuriating in the fact that school’€™s out for summer, what exactly are you teachers doing? It’€™s a mystery that baffles students, parents and society as a whole each and every year!

Well, contrary to popular belief, teachers don’€™t just cease to exist as the school year finishes, nor do they hibernate in the stock cupboard until Autumn is upon us. We know that most teachers want to make the most of their well-earned time off. Here are a few ways they can do it and #SeizeAdventure at the same time:

Discover the world.

With five to six weeks off, there’€™s no better time than to push all thoughts of routine to the back of your mind, book a holiday and discover the world! With Europe right on our doorstep, there are golden sands, cerulean waters and majestic mountains just a short hop, skip and jump away. Plus, some long haul destinations like Indonesia or Thailand might cost a bit more than you’€™d like for the plane ticket but are cheap as chips once you’€™re out there! Can you hear it? That’€™s the sound of adventure calling!

Get inspired.

Sometimes it’€™s all too easy to get bogged down in ensuring all the right topics are covered to get your students through their exams and you forget that your subject can actually be fun! Now you’€™ve got some free time, read more books, go to more plays, visit an exhibition or two,€“ whatever floats your boat! Rediscover your own passions and by the time September rolls around you’€™ll be feeling ready to inspire your tribe again!

Try something new.

Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is a must in the summer months,€“ there’€™s no better time to enjoy the exhilaration of trying something new. Take a banana leaf out of our book and come try one of our high ropes courses at Go Ape, or explore our beautiful forest locations on board your very own Segway. We guarantee that you’€™ll know what true freedom tastes like as you shoot down our zip-wires or leap from our high platforms! We’€™ll get that adrenaline pumping, that’€™s for sure.

But seizing adventure at Go Ape doesn’€™t have to stop once the summer is over! We offer inspiring school trip packages that start from £12 per child,€“ with supervising adults going absolutely free! With a fun-filled hour of canopy exploring, trail blazing and obstacles for all to enjoy, you can turn those back-to-school frowns upside-down.

Come hang out in Nets Kingdom!

Nets Kingdom Blog

Tribespeople,€ we’€™ve some exciting news to share with you! We have launched another, awesome Go Ape adventure. And just like our Tree Top Adventure and Tree Top Junior courses, and our Zip Trekking Adventure, it’€™s set high up in the canopy!

Ladies and gentlemen, girls and boys, monkeys and Tarzans, we introduce to you to our tree-mendous Nets Kingdom!

What is it?

It’€™s exactly what it says on the tin: a kingdom of nets! It’€™s a mammoth network of trampolines, giant ball nets, walkways and slides, set 30 feet up in the trees. To be a little more specific, Nets Kingdom boasts:

– 4 mammoth bounce nets (one filled with giant balls and one for little monkeys only)
– 7 canopy tree houses and 1 destination tree house
– 2 net slides transporting you back to the ground
– 3 entrance ramps and one huge 9 metre high net climbing tower
– 8 tree-to-tree net bridges
– 80 metre long treehouse adventure route

This super-fun, 2000 square metre adventure is suited to monkeys big and small, old and young! We encourage everyone to have a go, but if your mini Tarzans are feeling independent (or think it’€™s uncool to hang with their parents), then you can always watch from the comfort of the forest floor.

And you can expect to pull some of the same moves as you would on one of our treetop obstacle courses. But instead of crawling through tunnels, you’€™ll be crawling through nets. And instead of wobbling across bridges, you’€™ll be wobbling across nets. And rather than whooshing through the air via zip wire, you’€™ll be whizzing down a (you guessed it) net slide!

If you’€™re a pro at clambering up, down and across nets on a TTA or TTJ course, then you must have a go at monkeying around in Nets Kingdom! This netted playground is encased in a hammock-like setting, so it’€™s safe as treehouses.

Nets Kingdom is exclusive to Go Ape Black Park course in Buckinghamshire.

So why not come down to our new adventure?

Seize adventure with your tribe!

Seize Adventure

Sometimes, it’€™s so easy to get wrapped up in the humdrum of daily life that we forget to stop and appreciate the world around us, as well as the people in it. So, turn away from your screens (okay, well not this one), gather up your tribe and lend us your ear, because life is only worth living when done so adventurously.

Find your tribe

They say that fortune favours the bold, the brave and those bonkers enough to spend their day swinging through the canopy, but what are riches when you have no one to share them with? A sunset isn’€™t half as beautiful when it’€™s just viewed by you alone and even the tallest mountain can feel small with no one beside you.

We humans are social creatures and when we’€re away from our fellows for too long, it can leave us feeling a little lonely. We all want to belong, so Carpe that Diem and stand up from your desk, shake out your body, grab your partner’€™s hand and whatever little monkeys you have and take to the trees! We promise, the combination of fresh air, adrenaline and good company will soon set your heart a-fluttering.

However, if the little monkeys among you are feeling a tad reluctant when it comes to taking flight, remind them that famous world explorers like Marco Polo, Edmund Hillary and Gertrude Bell didn’€™t achieve their wonderful feats alone. Even Neil Armstrong had a whole tribe of helpers over the telecom and in the space shuttle when they went to the moon. It just shows that there can be no jump too high, no zip-line too terrifying or task too hard when you have your tribe by your side.

Go outside

Here at Go Ape, we know that when a tribe gets together, wonderful things can happen. So whether you’ve just turned eight or are a great octogenarian, everyone can benefit from feeling the wind blow through their hair as they whizz down a zip-line! Or, go as slow as you want; take a Segway tour and discover the forest’€™s understory, or amble along the holloways and feel the mud squelch under your toes.

Happiness is the most precious and unique currency on earth, because the more you give, the more you get. So gather up your tribe and invite them outside. Get their hearts pumping and fill their lungs with laughter. For us, being with our tribe feels like warm pudding in our bellies, or like tucking into a delicious slice of banana bread after a long week at Banana HQ. So whatever adventure you choose to embark on, what matters most are the ones you share it with!

Take a deep breath, give your tribe a cuddle and remember always seize adventure!

You could tackle the ladders, tunnels and Tarzan swings on our adrenaline-pumping Dalby Forest course up on the North York Moors, or fly through the trees for over 400m on two of the UK’€™s longest zip wires at Go Ape Aberfoyle, in the Trossachs. You might even choose to unleash your inner ape at Go Ape Buxton, taking in the beautiful scenery of the Peak District.
