A shout out to adventurous Dads

Go Ape Gift Vouchers this Christmas
It’ll soon be that time of the year again. The day where silverbacks all over the UK get to put their feet up, unwrap a thoughtful pressie, and legitimately put off mowing the lawn until another day. Yep, Father’s Day is THIS Sunday, 18th June.

Here at Banana HQ, we’ve compiled a list of five things we can thank our dads, step-dads, grandads and uncles for. We bet at least one of these rings a bell…

1. Thanks for… being our personal taxi drivers

Shelley’s house, then Priya’s house, then Jen’s Nanna’s. Then to the cinema on the High Street, please. Oh, there’s a new one-way system, by the way. Yeah, probably should have mentioned that earlier. Can you reverse?

Gift inspo: why not get him a bottle of something smooth and aged, with a posh label. Or perhaps just his trusted favourite. Someone else can be designated driver for a change.

2. Thanks for… letting us climb the tall trees

Looking back, we’re sure there were many hours of anxious curtain-twitching and phone-checking while we were out exploring our local jungles. Thanks for resisting wrapping us in cotton wool. We learnt something from every single bump and scrape, and we’ve got the precious lifelong memories to prove it.

Gift inspo: why not relive childhood summers by treating your silverback to a Tree Top Adventure? Swing-side-by-side through the forest canopy and see who can Tarzan call the loudest.

3. Thanks for… being the Easter Bunny, Father Christmas, and the Tooth Fairy

OK, so although it was technically a decade-long deception, thanks for hiding those eggs under the geraniums, nibbling Rudolph’s carrot, and sneaking those pound coins under the pillow. We know it was you, and we love you for it.

Gift inspo: let Dad be himself this Father’s Day by buying him a smart shirt from his favourite store. He deserves it after all those Christmases in the Santa costume…

4. Thanks for… letting us listen to our terrible teenage music

Slaves to the charts, we’re fairly sure we made you endure more than anyone’s fair share of white-suited boy bands, neon-haired pop princesses, and novelty one-hit wonders (Crazy Frog, anyone?).

Sound familiar? Gift inspo: make Dad a playlist of stuff he actually enjoys listening to. Maybe he was right, after all. We’d much rather listen to Blur than Blazin’ Squad these days.

5. Thanks for… the epic BBQs

Although it was pretty clear the kitchen wasn’t your natural habitat, you were always first out with the lighter fluid on a clear day. Bravely risking burnt eyebrows, backseat chefs, and an incinerated shed, you made sure we all enjoyed the sunshine with full bellies. Thanks for your commitment to the marinades – they were awesome.

Gift inspo: why not coax your culinary hero indoors with a good cookbook? It might just persuade him that not all food has to be prepared over hot coals.

Whatever you have to thank Dad for, why not treat him to some family tree-time? We’re sure he’ll love the Tarzan swings and zip lines, but we’re willing to bet his favourite bit will be spending quality time with you.

Dads – looking for a (not so) subtle way to hint at an adventurous gift? Maybe a cheeky retweet might do the trick…

Can I Go Ape?

Half term activities for kids

You’ve been thinking about unleashing your inner Tarzan in the treetops for a while now, but you haven’t booked because you’re not sure if you’ll physically be able to swing with us.

Well, maybe we can clear the air…”Can I Go Ape?” is actually one of the most common questions the tribe get asked; and while our Tree Top Adventure courses are challenging (both mentally and physically), you should be able to conquer one so long as you’re reasonably fit and healthy.

What we say is this: if you can climb a ladder, you can swing through the trees at Go Ape! You don’t need to hit the gym five days a week, or follow a diet of an Olympian to monkey around in the trees with us. It’s our mission to make adventure accessible to the masses, which is why we’ve created courses to accommodate as many people as possible.

You’ll burn hundreds of calories completing a Tree Top Adventure (without realising it), and there are certain obstacles that are more challenging than others. Your adventure will last around three hours, and in that time you’ll crawl, climb, wobble, swing and zip your way to the finish line which is, a squidgy mound of woodchip!

Log Crossing at Go Ape

Concerned about the trickier obstacles? Don’t be! When you’re up in the canopy, you carve your own path there are a number of points where you get to choose whether to take on the easier or harder obstacle. You might start off with the more simple obstacles, then move on to the trickier ones (Stirrups, we’re looking at you) as your confidence grows!

If you think that you might need additional support, just give us a call on 0333 433 0902 to discuss your requirements. Extra equipment or support may be needed for your adventure, or we might have to tweak our training to ensure you get the most from your Go Ape experience. Sometimes the risk of injury is too great despite taking additional measures, which means that some people are unfortunately unable to swing with us.

If you have a pre-existing medical conditions then we recommend you visit the course first to check it out. The Go Ape tribe aren’t medically qualified, so you’re responsible for conducting your own risk assessment. We don’t recommend pregnant women sign-up to a Tree Top Adventure; but again, the choice is yours.

If you are pregnant, we suggest seeking advice from your doctor first, and you’ll need to sign a disclaimer stating that you’ve made us aware and have decided to take part despite Go Ape’s advice.

If you don’t think you’re up for spending time in the treetops, that doesn’t mean you can’t come and hang with us!

You could always hop aboard our Forest Segways for an hour’s worth of exploration! Segway-ing around the forest floor is not as physically demanding as swinging from tree to tree just put your feet up while the wheels do all the work!

An adventurous gift for the daredevil in your life!

Go Ape Gift Vouchers this Christmas

Do you know someone who grabs life by the horns, lives every day to its very fullest and embraces any adventure or challenge that’s thrown their way?

If you do and their birthday’s coming up we’ve got the perfect present idea: give them the gift of adventure!A box of choccies last a couple of days (or a couple of hours if you’re anything like us), a pair of socks lasts a year and a book will be read in a week.

But the gift of adventure will create memories that’ll last a lifetime!Go Ape vouchersWe’re big believers in gifting memories, not things, which is why we offer Go Ape vouchers for four of our adventures!

Think the self-confessed daredevil in your life will enjoy monkeying around in the treetops? If so, you could treat them to a Tree Top Adventure, or a Tree Top Junior if they’re a mini Tarzan. The courses will have them climbing nets, crawling through tunnels, wobbling across bridges and whizzing through the air on zip wires!

Zip Trekking Adventure

Speaking of zip wires, if the birthday boy or girl lives near The Lakes (or wouldn’t mind travelling there), you could treat them to our one-of-a-kind Zip Trekking Adventure! No other obstacles just zip, after zip, after zip, after zip (seven in total, in fact).

We’ve basically made human flight possible with this sky-high adventure, which covers a whopping 3km!

For a more down-to-earth activity, there’s our Forest Segway Experience, which is a good alternative if the gift has already tested their Tarzan skills in the trees. On a Segway, they’ll get to immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and smells of the forest in a totally unique way, as they roll over simple pathways as well as more testing trails.

Gift vouchers can be used at any of our 31 locations across the UK and are valid for a year. If you want, you can load the card with the amount of your choice, so that the recipient can pick their own activity.

Our vouchers can also be used to buy Go Ape gear. From branded tees, beanies and hoodies to handy lanyards and water bottles, our clothing and accessories are available to browse and buy from the on-site Go Ape cabin.

A Go Ape voucher is a gift the daredevil in your life will use and cherish. They won’t need to pull their pretend ‘I love it!’ face when they open the envelope, because they actually will!

You can expect to earn mega brownie points, and the added bonus? There’s no wrapping involved!

Teachers go free!

Go Ape School Trips

“A show of hands, kids who fancies skipping school for the day to go and monkey around in the treetops?” Ask your class this question and we bet that there won’t be a single child who keeps both of their hands down! Your class are bound to appreciate a break from times tables and spelling for the day think of it as a treat for all of their hard work.

They’ll get to clamber up into the treetops together to enjoy a fun-filled hour of canopy exploring, tackling obstacles as they go and completing the course by whooshing through the air via zip wire, landing in a squishy pile of wood chip.

A Tree Top Junior is mega fun; but it’s educational, too. Spending time in the treetops will teach your mini tribe valuable lessons and skills about the great outdoors we promise, it’s just as educational as a trip to the museum! And here’s the thing: kids learn best when they’re having fun.

A Tree Top Junior will give your kids an experience they’ll never forget; it’ll boost their confidence in the great outdoors which in turn, could make them more confident and happy in class. We call that a win-win. With the help of practicing teachers, we’ve also developed a range of stimulating resources which support the National Curriculum. They cover maths, English and science, and include ideas for how to make the most of your trip, as well as tasks for kids to complete whilst hanging out in the forest (and you can join in, too!).

Tree Top Junior School Trips

The nitty gritty A Tree Top Junior costs just £12 per pupil and guess what? Teachers and supervisors get to swing for free! If your kids are aged under 6 years old, you’ll need to supervise them from the treetops, with 1 adult to every 2 juniors. For kids aged 6-15, you can choose whether to supervise from the trees or ground, and there must be 1 adult per 8 juniors. If more supervisors join, they’ll need to pay.

Fancy swinging by to check out our offering? Not a problem! Teachers are more than welcome to pay a visit to Go Ape during the week, which will give them a good opportunity to chat to a member of our tribe about planning their adventure.

As well as a Tree Top Junior, we can suggest activities for you and your tribe to take part in during the day, and we can also put on a forest feast for you all to enjoy at lunch.

Each pupil will receive a memento of their Go Ape adventure in the form of a certificate, giving them something they can treasure forever!
