NEW! Go Ape’s Weather Forecasting Chimpanzee

Go Ape in the rain

With some of the UK seeing all of May’s rain in the last 12 hours we decided to put together a revolutionary weather forecasting tool for all you adventurers out there.

Ladies and gentleman, we’d like to introduce our forecasting Chimpanzee:

Go Ape's Forecasting Chimpanzee

You should never let the weather stop play, so if you’re looking out the window and wondering what to wear we recommend creating your very own forecasting chimp! Come rain or shine, the right clothing and footwear means you can enjoy the great outdoors to your hearts content.

What are you waiting for? Go grab that cagoule, dig out those wellies and show them puddles who’s boss.

Make the most of your bank holiday

Bank Holiday Weekend

What’s that? Another bank holiday? Yes! (*pumps fist*).

It’s Bank Holiday Monday next week (30th May), which for many people means a nice long weekend! And we don’t want to tempt fate or anything, but the weather forecast is looking mega promising – fingers crossed!

Now, we don’t like to be the bearers of bad news (sorry in advance), but this bank hols is the last one ‘til August. We’ve had a nice string of long weekends but after next Monday, that’s it for a few months (*slowly lowers fist*).

So, what that means is you need to make the very most of this three-day weekend, fitting in as many fun-filled activities as you can! Stuck for ideas? Here’s a few to consider:

Say “cheese”!

Brockworth’s notorious annual cheese rolling event is back on 30th May and sees a bunch of crazy fools leg it down the (very) steep Cooper’s Hill, chasing a giant wheel of cheese. The first person to cross the finish line wins the weighty 8lb block of Double Gloucester.

Roll out

A bike ride is the ultimate bank holiday activity and the great thing is, it doesn’t cost a thing! There are loads of traffic-free routes across the country ideal for families with small kids. If the sun’s got his hat on, why not pack a picnic to enjoy when you take a pit stop? Take a look at the Sustrans website for some cycling inspiration.

Get your hike on

From coastal paths to mountain routes, the UK boasts some truly awesome hiking trails that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy. And let’s face it: few things in life compare to that “I did it!” feeling when you reach the top!

If you’ve got kids in tow, it’s worth doing your research beforehand to ensure the route you pick is family-friendly. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, why not try wild camping for the night? Your little ones will love getting back to nature and spending the night under the stars – you can search for local sites on the Pitchup website.

If you’re an avid hiker wanting to indulge in a whole weekend of walking, but haven’t yet picked your destination, check out this Telegraph list of 10 best British hikes.

Go Ape Tree Top AdventureHave a BBQ

(Sorry, tempting fate again). We’re pretty confident this weekend is going to be a scorcher, or very warm at least – perfect weather for a spot of al fresco dining!

If you’re thinking of inviting friends and family round for a hearty BBQ in the back garden, why not share the work and get them each to bring a dish? One person brings the nibbles, another brings the meat, another brings the drink, etc.

Go Ape!

Last but by no means last, how about visiting Go Ape and embarking on a Tree Top Adventure with your family this weekend? This is your chance for you all to unleash your inner Tarzans as you swing through the tree tops, tackling obstacles and hollering as you go! We’ve got 30 courses spanning the UK, so there’s bound to be a Go Ape near you! Find your nearest here.

A new Tree Top Adventure at Go Ape Thetford

Tarzan Swing

If you’ve been to visit our Thetford Forest course recently, you may have noticed things were a bit different in the canopy this time around.

That’s because we’ve renovated our Tree Top Adventure and turned it into a brand new course for you! Thetford was our first ever site, a mother hen to all the sites that followed her, so it’s only right that after 14 years, the place got a makeover.

Changes up high
New Platforms at Go Ape Thetford

Not only have we put in all new obstacles and crossings, we’ve rethought the entire layout of the course, meaning you get to see parts of the forest you wouldn’t have seen last time.

With the new design comes a unique aspect for those adventurous monkeys out there – a dual course. That means you now have a choice of which route you take – moderate or extreme. Along these routes you’ll encounter brand new back-to-back black crossings (don’t worry these are optional) and a one-of-a-kind dual zip wire where you can race your pri-mates to the landing area. Sound challenging enough for you?

Changes closer to Earth

Go Ape Thetford Pixie CabinThere’s lots more that’s happened on the ground too. The party area has had a complete re-furb and is now an idyllic forest retreat.

You may even catch sight of a sprite or forest fairy in the aptly named “pixie palace”; a brand new cabin that seats up to 20 people, and boasts a fully furbished interior with pillows, electricity and heated floors.

We’ve also opened up another level of the events area (literally, it’s on another level) where you can hang out with your party –  it’s the open air tree house.

Be the king or queen of the jungle in an exclusive open-air platform in the trees, scattered with comfy beanbags and garden games to entertain your guests. The new events area is available to hire for parties and corporate events every day of the week.

Go Ape Thetford Forest FacilitiesWhat your day could look like

After a day swinging through the trees in our Tree Top Junior and Tree Top Adventure courses, there’s no need to shut yourselves indoors! The Chessington Resort provides the perfect habitat for a spot of glamping (that’s glamorous camping, for those who didn’t know), so you and your tribe can enjoy a night under the stars and truly get back to nature. The Explorer tents can sleep up to four people and include wooden floors, beds, power sockets and even Wi-Fi – perfect for those who still like their creature comforts, even in the great outdoors!
