Summer Time In The Forest

Seize Adventure

Don’€™t get us wrong, we’€™re utterly enamoured by the sights, sounds and smells of the forest all year round. Regardless of the weather, season, or time of day, the wonderfully wild woodland always manages to captivate us. Hence why forests are the home to most of Go Ape’€™s Tree Top Adventure courses!

With each season comes new reasons to fall in love with the forest. So, staying topical, here’€™s why you should visit one this summer.

To see and smell the rainbow

Of flowers, that is. Forests aren’€™t just green! The flowers and plants which cover its floor transform it into a multicoloured canvas of pinks, purples, reds, whites, yellow and blues. Says the Woodland Trust, late spring flowering plants like bugle, wild strawberry, herb Robert, pignut, foxglove and lesser stitchwort (most of which sound like something from a J.K. Rowling novel) are joined by the likes of dog rose, enchanter’€™s nightshade and honeysuckle. See them, smell them, lie amongst them!

To seek shelter

Shady spots are in abundance in the forest, particularly during summer when the canopy is extra thick and bushy. This makes the ideal conditions for a morning trek, or maybe even an afternoon of tearing up the trials on a mountain bike. Oh, and let’€™s not forget, the canopy also keeps you nice and shaded while you’€™re busy swinging from tree to tree as you tackle a Tree Top Adventure course with your tribe!

To peer at (and into) a pond or two

Ponds are the ultimate place to spot wildlife, especially during summer. Look out for frogs, newts and tadpoles; pond skaters which skim along the water; and snails and diving beetles, which take regular trips to the surface to catch their breath. Out of the water, you may see dragonflies and damselflies dance in their air; or birds soaring to the water to take their daily bath. One of our favourite spots has to be Cannop Ponds in the Forest of Dean (where you’€™ll also find one of our leafy hideouts!).

To indulge in a mighty feast

Picnics in the park? Overrated! Pack a feast into a wicker hamper and head to the forest, instead! We’€™d highly recommend the New Forest; a beautiful national park encompassing woodlands as well as heathlands and coastlines. The best picnic spots are all along Ornamental Drive; try Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary to enjoy your sarnies next to a herd of fallow deer; or Lepe Country Park where you can watch the ships sail to Southampton as you chow down on your crisps.

To explore it in a brand new way

You’€™ve walked through forests. You’€™ve ran through forests. You’€™ve ridden through forests. So, it’€™s time to explore the forest in a brand new way: by swinging, zipping or rolling through it! Go Ape can be found in some of the Britain’€™s best-loved forests and parks; in 31 locations in fact, meaning there’€™s bound to be a site near you.

If you fancy unleashing your inner Tarzan in the canopy, book one of our Tree Top Adventures for you and your tribe. You’€™ll tackle everything from swings and bridges to tunnels and high ropes, whizzing to the ground after each section via zip wire. Alternatively, you could board a bunch of all-terrain Segways for an hour’€™s worth of exploration; or head to Grizedale forest for a one-of-a-kind Zip Trekking Adventure (just zip, after zip, after zip).

Or (yes, there’€™s more!) come and check out our very latest, forest-themed adventure at Black Park: Nets Kingdom! It’€™s a mighty, netted playground set up high in the trees where you can run amok with your tribe!

What would your UK outdoor #DreamAdventure be?

Dream Adventure

Here at Banana HQ, we’ve been having a conflab, and if we could enter our #DreamAdventure competition (which we can’t – boo) this is what we’d ask for…

Adventurous marketing exec Jaz would climb Mount Snowdon with her boyfriend. PR gal Poppy would take on a wingwalk (rather her than us!), and our social media man’s dreaming of kitesurfing in Pembrokeshire – go Dan.

Scotland proved to be a popular destination. Boss Anna would paraglide over the Highlands, while copywriter Sarah wishes she could search for whales off the coast of Mull. Work experience guy Josh would also head north of the border, to cycle the outdoor velodrome in Edinburgh (we didn’t even know that was a thing).

All good choices. But unfortunately, as we can’t enter, a total an utter waste. You can enter, though – you lucky thing, you. What would your UK, outdoor #DreamAdventure be?

Head to our website and tell us! There are only six more chances to win!

We’ve got our fingers crossed for you,
The Go Ape Tribe

A shout out to adventurous Dads

Go Ape Gift Vouchers this Christmas
It’ll soon be that time of the year again. The day where family silverbacks all over the UK get to put their feet up, unwrap a thoughtful pressie, and legitimately put off mowing the lawn until another day. Yep, Father’s Day is THIS Sunday, 18th June.

Here at Banana HQ, we’ve compiled a list of five things we can thank our dads, step-dads, grandads, fathers-in-law and uncles for. We bet at least one of these rings a bell…

  • Thanks for… being our personal taxi drivers

Shelley’s house, then Priya’s house, then Jen’s Nanna’s. Then to the cinema on the High Street, please. Oh, there’s a new one-way system, by the way. Yeah, probably should have mentioned that earlier. Can you reverse?

Gift inspo: why not get him a bottle of something smooth and aged, with a posh label. Or perhaps just his trusted favourite. Someone else can be designated driver for a change.

  • Thanks for… letting us climb the tall trees

Looking back, we’re sure there were many hours of anxious curtain-twitching and phone-checking while we were out with exploring our local jungles. Thanks for resisting wrapping us in cotton wool. We learnt something from every single bump and scrape, and we’ve got the precious life-long memories to prove it.

Gift inspo: why not relive childhood summers by treating your silverback to a Tree Top Adventure. Swing-side-by-side through the forest canopy
and challenge each other to who can Tarzan call the loudest.

  • Thanks for… being the Easter Bunny, Father Christmas, and the Tooth Fairy

OK, so although it was technically a decade-long deception, thanks for hiding those eggs under the geraniums, nibbling Rudolph’s carrot, and sneaking those pound coins under the pillow. We know it was you, and we love you for it.

Gift inspo: let your Dad be himself this Father’s Day by buying him a smart shirt from his favourite store. He deserves it after all those Christmases in that Santa costume…

  • Thanks for… letting us listen to our terrible teenage music

Slaves to the charts, we’re fairly sure you made you endure more than anyone’s fair share of white-suited boy bands, neon-haired pop princesses, and novelty one-hit wonders (Crazy Frog, anyone?).

Sound familiar? Gift inspo: make Dad a playlist of stuff he actually enjoys listening to. Maybe he was right, after all. We’d much rather listen to Blur than Blazin’ Squad these days.

  • Thanks for… the epic BBQs

Although it was pretty clear the kitchen wasn’t your natural habitat, you were always first out with the lighter fluid on a clear day. Bravely risking burnt eyebrows, backseat chefs, and an incinerated shed, you made sure we all enjoyed the sunshine with full bellies. Thanks for your commitment to the marinades – they were awesome.

Gift inspo: why not coax your culinary hero indoors with a good cookbook? It might persuade him that not all food has to be prepared over hot coals.

Whatever you have to thank Dad for, why not treat him to some family tree-time? We’re sure he’ll love the Tarzan swings and zip lines, but we’re willing to bet his favourite bit will be spending quality time with you.

Dad’s – looking for a (not so) subtle way to hint at an adventurous gift for family tree-time? Maybe a cheeky retweet might be just the trick…

Gift adventure

An adventurous gift for the daredevil in your life!

Go Ape Gift Vouchers this Christmas

Do you know someone who grabs life by the horns, lives every day to its very fullest and embraces any adventure or challenge that’s thrown their way?

If you do and their birthday’s coming up we’ve got the perfect present idea: give them the gift of adventure!A box of choccies last a couple of days (or a couple of hours if you’re anything like us), a pair of socks lasts a year and a book will be read in a week.

But the gift of adventure will create memories that’ll last a lifetime!Go Ape vouchersWe’re big believers in gifting memories, not things, which is why we offer Go Ape vouchers for four of our adventures!

Think the self-confessed daredevil in your life will enjoy monkeying around in the treetops? If so, you could treat them to a Tree Top Adventure, or a Tree Top Junior if they’re a mini Tarzan. The courses will have them climbing nets, crawling through tunnels, wobbling across bridges and whizzing through the air on zip wires!

Zip Trekking Adventure

Speaking of zip wires, if the birthday boy or girl lives near The Lakes (or wouldn’t mind travelling there), you could treat them to our one-of-a-kind Zip Trekking Adventure! No other obstacles just zip, after zip, after zip, after zip (seven in total, in fact).

We’ve basically made human flight possible with this sky-high adventure, which covers a whopping 3km!

For a more down-to-earth activity, there’s our Forest Segway Experience, which is a good alternative if the gift has already tested their Tarzan skills in the trees. On a Segway, they’ll get to immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and smells of the forest in a totally unique way, as they roll over simple pathways as well as more testing trails.

Gift vouchers can be used at any of our 31 locations across the UK and are valid for a year. If you want, you can load the card with the amount of your choice, so that the recipient can pick their own activity.

Our vouchers can also be used to buy Go Ape gear. From branded tees, beanies and hoodies to handy lanyards and water bottles, our clothing and accessories are available to browse and buy from the on-site Go Ape cabin.

A Go Ape voucher is a gift the daredevil in your life will use and cherish. They won’t need to pull their pretend ‘I love it!’ face when they open the envelope, because they actually will!

You can expect to earn mega brownie points, and the added bonus? There’s no wrapping involved!
